What Spontar knows about you
Your teacher uses an app called Spontar in your drama lessons. Here is what it knows, in ordinary words.
What the app is for
In a lesson, your teacher hands you a small device called a Cue. In a scene it shows you your part — written by your teacher before the lesson — at the moment it is your turn. It is yours. Nobody else sees it.
Green means it is your turn. Yellow means you are next. Dark means watch.
What we know about you
Not very much.
- Your name, as your teacher typed it.
- Which class or group you are in.
- Which Cue you were given in a lesson.
- Which parts you played, and when.
- That a parent agreed, if your group needs that.
- A score or a note, if your teacher chooses to write one.
That is the list. There is nothing else.
What we do not know
- We do not have your email address. We never ask for one, so we cannot have it. You do not sign in to anything.
- We do not know where you are. The app never asks for your location.
- A Cue has no camera, and Spontar never uses its microphone. Nothing is ever recorded — no video, no sound, not once.
- We do not know your parents' names or how to contact them.
- A Cue never goes on the internet.
Does it decide if I am good at acting?
No. The app never gives you a score, a level, a star or a rating. It never decides anything about how well you acted. A computer is not making a judgement about you, and it never will.
Your teacher might give a score or write themselves a note, the same way they might on paper. That is your teacher's. You will never see it on your Cue.
Who can see what I did?
Your teacher. Nobody else.
Not the head teacher. Not whoever runs the school or the studio. Not the other students. Not us, unless your school asks us to look at something because something has gone wrong.
How long do you keep it?
A year, and then it is deleted automatically. Your school can choose to keep it for less time — as little as a month — but not longer than two years.
Your name goes when your school removes you from its lists. What stays afterwards is a count of how many lessons happened, and your name is not in it.
Are there adverts?
No. There are no adverts in the app, and there never will be. We do not sell anything about you to anyone. Nobody pays us to show you anything.
What if I want it deleted?
Ask your teacher, or whoever runs Spontar at your school or studio. They can delete everything about you, and they do not need to ask us. You have that right and you do not have to give a reason.
You can also ask for a copy of everything we hold about you. That is your right too.
What if something feels wrong?
Tell your teacher first — they can usually fix it the same day. If you would rather tell us, write to hello@spontar.com and a person will read it.
If you are not happy with what we do about it, you can complain to a data protection authority. That is a government office whose job is to check that companies like us are behaving.
The longer version
There is a full privacy notice with the legal detail in it. This page is not a summary of it — everything here is true and complete. The other one is written for adults who need the references.
